Acura vs. Lexus

Acura and Lexus are two high-end automakers well known for producing jaw-dropping luxury cars. But is Acura better than Lexus? Or, is Lexus better than Acura? To help you in the decision process, we’ve compared some major aspects of both companies, including their CPO programs and warranties, as well as prominent features of the cars themselves.

CPO Program and Warranties

In terms of these two brands’ certified pre-owned vehicle programs and warranty plans, Acura and Lexus are similarly great, but Acura has its own key advantages in terms of length and inspections. For the warranty on CPO cars, in terms of length in years, Acura offers seven years against Lexus’ six. Acura also ensures better quality for their CPO vehicles, as their inspection process assesses 182 points to just 161 points for Lexus.

Models and Prices

Acura’s 2019 lineup includes three sedans, two SUVs, and a supercar to choose from (each with their own various models). Lexus, on the other hand, has almost 20 to choose from (including several Hybrid versions of their standard vehicles). Interestingly, Acura actually offers both the most affordable and most expensive cars between both brands. For those looking for all-out luxury, Acura’s most high-end offering is its supercar, the NSX, which starts at $157,500*.

For car buyers out there looking for the most affordable luxury car, the starting price for Acura’s cheapest model sedan, the 2019 ILX, is nearly a third less than the starting price of the Lexus’ cheapest model, the IS ($25,900 MSRP* vs. $38,410). Even with the drop in price, the Acura ILX retains many of its competition’s standard features (as is typically the case when comparing Acura cars to their competition).

In terms of their MPG ratings, the ILX has 24/34 MPG** (city/highway) compared to just 21/30 MPG for the IS. On top of all of that, the baseline model of the 2019 ILX comes equipped with a moonroof, where the standard 2019 IS lacks this feature. While not every vehicle that Acura offers is less expensive than its Lexus counterpart, they make up for it with functionality, safety scores, and standard features.
